Living a healthy lifestyle is a choice but not one that comes for free. Organic food and products are often more expensive then their conventional counterparts which is why its sometimes necessary to pick and choose what you’re willing to fork over extra cash for.

Below is a list of 7 of my non-negotioables that I ¬†believe are worth the extra dollar dollar bills, ya’ll. Of course there are more but these are the main ones that I will always buy organic and natural.

5 Supplements I Became Obsessed With in 2017

As the year winds down I find myself in a constant state of reflection. 2017 was filled to the brim with education, self-discovery, triumph, hardships and loads of good food. It was also filled with innovations and discoveries in the world of health and wellness. The importance of our gut health hit mainstream, new science came out to support the importance of intermittent fasting (as long as you don’t have a disordered relationship with food) and organic products are popping up everywhere from airports to Walmarts. I also learned a lot about new supplements and their benefits.

I’ll be the first to admit that I am a skeptic of most supplements.¬†Part of the aversion is that we cannot supplement our way out of a poor diet, the industry in not regulated so quality control is minimal and if we can go right to the source of most nutrients, organic whole foods, why would we take an isolated source?¬† All that being said after trying out a few this year when I was up against some issues including stress, anxiety, trouble sleeping, changes in skin apparence and serious problems focusing I thought I would give supplements another try. I really experienced benefits so my opinion softened a little…., well so much in fact that I actually swear by some now.

Here are the 5 supplements that I became obsessed with this year.

Why That Food Thing Matters

Hi sweet human friends!

This week I become a Certified Health Coach (does fist pumps) which is very exciting for me! Even though I have been working with clients for the last 6 months it feels really great to add this layer of credibility and tool to my tool belt.

The distinctions I learned and the nutritional knowledge I gained will only help me be more of service to YOU.

It’s a miracle that I am here, helping others discover how to have health in their bodies such that they can make the difference they want to make in the world. You all know my relationship with food used to be in shambles and my own experience creating vibrancy inside my body has been an uncomfortable ride. I didn’t always wake up feeling excited and go to bed feeling fulfilled.

But learning to feed myself has effected every other area of my life. Let me explain.

Knowledge Isn’t Power

Well hey, hi, hello!

Today I am sharing a kind of radical out there idea. Something I’ve been thinking about for a while now.

I was completely on the fence about sharing it but the thing about being on the fence is that after a while it starts to hurt. You just have to pick a side so you don’t continue to have fence up your ass.

So I just said F it. I am gunna go for it.

It’s the new red hair I swear.

But a little warning before I dive in. It’s a bit of a tough love kind of post. Just know I am coming from a good place, relating to you as powerful and whole. Not in need of fixing. This post is supposed to put you in a state of inquiry.

What is CBD and Should You Be Using It?

CANNA WHAT?

You’ve likely heard of cannabinoid oil over the last couple of years as Maraijuana and CBD specifically have been acknowledged for its medical applications by mainstream sources. If you aren’t familiar then I am so excited for you to read this but first let me start out by saying it is not the same thing as pot or weed and this post isn’t about getting high. That’s not really my thing.

Much of the scientific and clinical research that is sponsored by the US government downplays CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, depression, antibiotic-resistant infections, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders. This is part of the corruption and control by large pharmaceutical companies in this country that want to keep us sick and on their drugs.

So why am I so into it?

Each day we are exposed to hundreds of toxins, known as free radicals.

Exposure comes from the polluted air we breath, the food and beverages we consume, and the products we use on our body or around the house. No matter how healthy you are these toxins contribute to aging, both mentally and physically, by constantly damaging your cells and neurons.

This increases your susceptability to premature aging, stress, and disease.

Cannabinoids, like CBD, are naturally occuring antioxidants and nueroprotectants found in industrial hemp aka pot. Yes- there are antioxidants in that stuff and they are very beneficial for our bodies.

How To Boost Your Mood and Deal with Anxiety Naturally

When it comes to stress, anxiety, depression and overall mood one of the often overlooked impacts is the food we eat (or don’t eat for that matter).

Food and various nutrients are vital for the body and mind to feel happy, clam and clear. At the same time, there are also foods that can causes stress by spiking cortisol, leave us irritable from a sugar crash or a difficiency in an amino acid or vitamin inhibiting our bodies ability to produce feel good hormones like serotonin and dopamine.

Everyone wants to wake up feeling positive and ready to take on the day regardless of their circumstances or be able to stay calm in a less than ideal situation. Getting up in the morning and feeling sad without a “good reason” to feel sad is not the most empowering way to start your day.

I do believe that everyone is different and their circumstances are not the same nor is their unique biochemistry. ¬†However, I firmly believe that you can add, remove or adjust the foods you are eating to increase the amount of positive vibes that radiate from within you. i’ve experienced it myself. In essence, the foods you eat can impact your personality and outlook on life so to speak.

Science has recently discovered that we are only 10% human cells and the rest is microbiota or tiny bacteria. Much of which reside in our gut where most of our serotonin is produced. As Dr. Grundy puts it from his interview on The School Of Greatness podcast, these “bacteria send text messages to our brain” effecting our actions, decision making and homornes that can impact cravings and mood. ¬†In addition to eating a diet that is nutritionally sound providing proper vitamins and minerals,¬†“our bacteria control our behavior” so that means that the food we feed those little guys really matters as well.

Over the last 7 or so years, but specifically the last two I’ve made adjustments to the foods I’ve eaten and have experienced a change in my mood ¬†and below are some of the things I’ve learned and experienced that have left me feeling positive and with a sense of endles possibility for my life.

*NOTE: Keep in mind that this is my personal experience and I am not a doctor so be sure to talk with your doctor before trying anything out for yourself.
